THE GARDEN CITY.

FLORAL DISPLAY AT MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, Oct. 26. Despite the postponement of the floral pageant through bad weather, the event, when held to-day, was the most spectacular and colourful procession ever seen in the streets of Melbourne. One hundred thousand people lined the footpaths or gazed from roofs and windows. All traffic was suspended. The Grenadier Guards Band with 15 other bands took part. All the floats florally depicted incidents in the last 100 years of history. The wealth of flowers displayed justified Melbourne’s claim to being a garden city.
