SUPREME COURT.
CASE AT WELLINGTON. Pei - Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. George Paul Zackey, aged 46, a salesman, was charged .to-day in the Supremo Court with obtaining from David Lynn Thompson £95 by false!}’ representing he was the holder of the £IO,OOO winning ticket in ail Irish sweepstake, on tho strength of which Zackey was advanced money in various sums at different dates.
Thompson, in reply to tho Judge, said he would not have lent a halfpenny but for the representation by accused that he had won £IO,OOO. F\n- the defence Mr E. Parry made the legal submission that the prosecution had put forward no evidence that Zackey had' actually not won a prize in the sweep. “I think there is all the evidence in the world,” said His Honour in overruling the objection. After the jury had returned its verdict of guilty, Mr Parry asked for the question of law lie had raised to be reserved for decision by the Court of Appeal. His Honour refused to do this, but told Mr Parry that he could appeal direct to the Court of Appeal. Zackey was remanded for sentence.
