RACING NEWS

GENERAL TOPICES. (By “Binocular.”) After disappointing- several times of late Harvest Moon proved capable of winning a double at Waverley, paying excellent dividends on both occasions. Ruaform, who won the Moumahaki Stakes at the Waverley meeting, has displayed an aptitude for jumping and he may prove to be the best of the Ruapapas. By winning the Waverley Cup Korokio followed in the footsteps of her brother Redfern, who won this race in 1930. As a coincidence, both carried 7.12. Instalment, who has been off the scene for a long time owing to an injury, raced at the Waikato meeting and displayed a lot of early speed. He is a brother to Inflation. The ucluckiest horse that raced at the Waikato meeting is considered by a northern writer to have been St. Warrigal. He was carried off at one obstacle by the riderelss Cardhu. He went back and jumped the obstacle, but his task thereafter was hopeless. La Femme Noire, a mare by Lucullus from Demoiselle, by Demosthenes, is stated to have shown a lot of pace in the Bardowie Handicap at Cambridge, and she held on to finish second to Respectful. Lord Val registered his first success since passing into the hands of his present owner when he won the principal handicap at the Waikato meeting. He had not won a race since he scored at the Grand National meeting in 1932, so the success was overdue.

Mother Superior, who registered an excellent performance by running a close second to Might in the Wainui Handicap at Trentha.ni, will contest the Oaks Stakes at Riccarton. She should not find the extra distance beyond her. Weatherly is reported to have been unlucky to lose at Rangiora. When steadied by his rider ho experienced a series of bumps *that sent him back to last. Although he bridged the gap again Heather Glow held on just a little too well for him. The New Zealand-bred mare Yalprc, by Chief Ruler from Valerie, continues to show winning form in Western Australia, and her latest success was achieved in the Welter Handicap, 7j furlongs, at the Belmont Park meeting on October 13. Valpre was bred by Mr G. F. Moore in 1926, so that she is retaining her form well. The suspension of C. Browne, rider of Master Norval, for a month at Cambridge on Monday arose through his mount crossing Musquil rather sharply when he went to the front along the back in the Members’ Memorial Handicap. Musquil had been setting a muddling pace in front and Browne was considered to have crossed her too quickly when his mount assumed the load. Pelagia broke down badly while contesting the Bardowie Hack Handicap at Cambridge on Monday and is to be retired to the stud. She is to be mated with the English-bred horse Bambury. Pelagia is a four-year-old mare by Chief Ruler from Rapture, by Kilbroney—Ambrosian, by St. Ambrose. She possesed a good turn of speed but did not race with much success. AVONDALE_MEETING.
