IN THE HOUSE.

AD J OUBNMENT FOR CAUCUS. DEBATE. DAIRY INDUSTRY LEGISLATION. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. The debate on the second reading of the Unemployment Amendment Bill was not completed in the House of Representatives to-night, when the Prime Minister moved the adojurnment before 11 o’clock to. enable the Government members to resume their interrupted caucus for consideration of the dairy industry legislation. It is intended to continue the unemployment discussion on Thursday and proceed with the second reading of the Local Authorities Interest Reduction and Loans Conversion Amendment Bill The appearance of the Supplementary Estimates, the usual end-of-session washing-up legislation and the occasional sitting of select, committees while the business of the House is proceeding provide clear indications that the Government contemplates ending the session next week. The only interference with this plan would be insistence at the caucus of comprehensive legislation dealing with the agricultural emergency, but most of the members appear to hold the opinion that this highly difficult subject should not be hurriedly handled. Therefore, the Government may content itself with a minimum of "legislation authorising measures capable of being promptly operated without drastic changes in the organisation of the dairy industry.
