WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Active markets ruled on. the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, prices being well maintained in most sections. Government loans showed a tendency to advance further. Wellington Gas -debentures gained 5s at £lO3 15s. Bank issues showed an improved tone. National of New Zealand were done at 70s, New Zealand at 48s 6d and Union at £9 7s 6d. Reserve Bank were firm at £6 10s 6d, and buyers of New Zealand stayed in at 48s 7d. National of Australasia were 6s up at £l2 16s, sellers holding for £l3. Commercial of Australia were a point better at 16s Id. Pastoral shares were inclined to ease, Goldsbrough Mort being quoted 3d down at 30s 9d. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock was weak: at £43. Gas shares were very firm and Wellingtons moved up to 41s without getting offers. Insurance shares were dull and easier. New Zealand had a sale at 695. National Insurance were 3d off at 21s 3d. There was an improved demand for meat freezing shares. South Otago were strong at £6 9s, sellers £7. Southland were wanted at 725. New Zealand Refrigerating varied a point at 19s 5d for the fully paid and 9s 4d for the contributing. Huddart Parker firmed to 365. Union Steam pref. weje unchanged at 27s 9d, and P. and O. deferred were 6d down at 21s. Interest in woollen companies was maintained. Wellington Woollen were Is up at £5 11s 6d for the preference and 6d better at £5 11s for the ordinaries. Kaia.poi 17s paid were wanted at 13s 8d and the contributing at 4s 2d. Thero was a good demand for breweries, but New Zealands were distinctly weaker at 48s 9d, sellers 49s 6d. Industrial and trading issues were little changed. British Tobacco were done at 42s and Dunlop at 20s. Woolwortli (N.Z.) ordinaries moved tip 2s 6d to £7 17s 6d, and Australian Glass to 52s Id. Electrolytic Zinc pref._ were very firm at 365, sellers 6d higher. Colonial Sugar eased to £73 15s, sellers £75. Mining shares were more actively sought. Waihi were strong on a salo at 39s 6d, buyers staying in at 395. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
