PAH IATUA

PAHIATUA, Oct. 24. In a two-innings match with Eketahuna on Labour Day the Pahiatua cricket team was beaten by 20 runs. McKay made 39 and 15 for Pahiatua. The death occurred on Saturday of Mrs Emily Jane Lassen, wife of Mr C. Lassen, a member of the Pahiatua County Council. She was only 39 years of age. Born in Wellington, Mrs Lassen came to Pahiatua at the age of 16 years. She entered the profession of nursing and she had seen service in private hospitals in Wellington, Palmerston North, and Pahiatua. She was married eight years ago to Mr C. Lassen and she leaves two small daughters. Her parents are Mr and Mrs A. I. Geange, Tararua Street, old residents of Pahiatua. The late Mrs Lassen helped with many functions during the Great War period and was one of the candidates for the first queen carnival held in Pahiatua in aid of Carnival Park. Mr li. Priestly and Mr W. A. Wilson, both of Hastings, were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. D. Wilson over the week-end.

Mrs P. Tombs. of Napier, has been staying with her mother, Mrs T. Mexted. Mrs S. Purvis, ofMangaramarama, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs Leslie James. Dannevirke. Misses Jean and Jessie Grant, of Dannevirke, have been the guests

of Mrs Brown, at Mnngamutu. Miss M. Keddell, of Wellington, was the guest of Mrs Dickens, Cambridge Street, for the week-end. Mr and Mrs E. C. Burns of Mission Bay, Auckland, are visiting Mrs 11. Collins, Pahiatua. Mrs I). Corbett, of Napier, has returned home after spending the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, Wakeman Street. The friends of Mrs M. Vowell. of Masterton. and formerly' of Mangararaarama. will regret to hear of the death of her mother, Mrs Riordan, which occurred at her home at Heretaunga on Saturday last. Mrs H. Kelsey. Tararua Street, left for Wellington to-day to farewell her sister, Miss L. Whitmore, who is sailing by the Wanganella for Australia, Miss lv. Donald is also visiting Wellington to farewell her niece, Miss I. Harrison, who is accompanying Miss Whitmore.
