GERMAN CHURCH
OPPOSITION TO REICH BISHOP. NOTE BY SYNOD. ATTITUDE OF GOVERNMENT. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received October 2 2, 10.10 a.in. LONDON, Oct. 21. The Sunday Times’s Berlin correspondent states that the Confessiona Synod has declared an open war on Bishop Mueller and has sent a strongly worded note to the Reich Government, proclaiming a state or emergency within the Church owing to violence being used against tlie South German churches. . The note adds that the synod is nominating a council to assume tne Church leadership and calls upon parishes and pastors to obey them and refuse obedience to Bishop Mue - ier’s nominees. . , Those well-informed consider that the Government will give a conciliatory reply to the note, and probably dismiss Herr Jaeger because lie used the police against the Bavarian churchmen. . , Bishop Mueller may go on sick leave, it is stated.
