HOLIDAY CRICKET

SIX TEAMS ENGAGED

KILBIRNIE v. MANAWATU

Six local teams were engaged in holiday fixtures to-day, three matches being presented at the Sportsground, one at Terrace End, while a Manawatu 13 team journeyed to Levin to oppose Horowhenua, and a junior A combi nation were engaged at Wanganui. The Manawatu A team played its customary fixture with Kilbirnie (Wellington) and, with the wicket inclined to be tricky and the outfield heavy and slow, it was not surprising to find the game attended with some disappointments. The home team had first use of the wicket on the oval and disaster early overtook them, Robertson knocking down his wicket in playing a ball from Parsloe. The score was standing at five at the time, and the succeeding partnership between Olliver and C. McVicar was broken eight runs later. N. Gallichan joined Olliver only to lose his partner with the score unaltered, and three wickets were down for 13 runs. However, the complexion of the game improved considerably with Galliclian and M. A. Ongley becoming associated and, although each enjoyed a “life” or two, the telegraph had signalled the arrival of 123 before Ongley was caught off Morris after contributing 32. However, A. Cutler entered only to lose Galliclian a run later, a brilliant running catch by Ward on the boundary sending the batsman back to the pavilion. He had been playing forceful cricket and his 73 included a sixer. Cutler and McMillan were together at the luncheon adjournment with the total standing at 138 for the loss of five wickets. Griffiths, who had sent down 12 overs for his two wickets at a cost of 30 runs, and Morris, with one wicket for eight runs from eight overs, three of which were maidens, were the most successful of the six trundlers tried by the visitors. MANAWATU C v. “STOP-OUTS.”

VISITORS FARE BADLY,

A Manawatu C team opposed “StopOuts,’ a Wellington combination, on the outer area. The visitors had first use of the wicket, but they fared rather indifferently against 'the attack of the local seniors, Liddicoat being the only batsman to prove at all fruitful, placing 31 to his credit. At the
