HELP FOR DISTRESSED AREAS

The Prince of Wales will next month visit Durham to inspect the work done for the unemployed by the local officer of social service.
Sir J. Jarvis, High Sheriif of Surrey, who is promoting the scheme for the adoption of distressed areas by more prosperous counties, lias already received subscriptions amounting to £20.000 to help on the work. The first “adoption” is that of Jarrow-on-Tyne by the county of Surrey.
