AMITY IN EUROPE.
SIR JOHN SIMON’S REFERENCE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 19. Referring in his speech at Northampton to the murder of King Alexander of Yugoslavia arid M. Barthou, the French Foreign Minister, Sir John Simon (Foreign Secretary) said:— “Already, before the crime at Marseilles, we had marked with great satisfaction the speech made by Signor Mussolini in Milan on October 6, in
which lie expressed the continued intention of the Italian Government to seek agreement and understanding with her neighbours, and especially with France and Yugoslavia. The sentiments which were expressed by Signor Mussolini are all the more precious to-day after the death of King Alexander, because we do not doubt for one moment that they still represent the policy of the Italian Government. The visit of King Alexander to France was indeed undertaken as a further step m the direction of a general understanding, such as was outlined by Signor Mussolini. “Yugoslavia is now a State created by a combination of elements which come together under single sovereignty after the war, and whatever may be the difficulties and problems of its international Government and organisation, the sentiments of its various peoples show no wish for its dissolution.”
