DUTCH ’PLANE CRASHES.

GEYSENDORFFER MUST SCRATCH

Received October 22, 9.50 a.m. ALLAHABAD, Oct. 21. Asjes and Geysendorffer crashed when landing. The pilots were uninjured. Repairs will take a fortnight. Geysendorffer said: I realised something was wrong when I attempted to lower the undercarriage, which I then saw had only partially opened on one side and not at all on the other. I tried to land on one wheel, but the task in the darkness at high speed was practically impossible. The undercarriage was completely smashed and the left propeller bent. Geysendorffer is not officially scratching until to-morrow. He considers scratching inevitable. The cause of the smash was that the retractable undercarriage failed to open, consequently the machine landed flat.
