SERIOUS SITUATION.

RATEPAYERS IN DEFAULT. IRISH FREE STATE. Received September 21, 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 20. The Daily Mail’s Dublin correspondent says the Free State Minister for Public Health is considering the grave situation which has arisen in Limerick owing to numerous defaulting ratepayers. The County Council, which has already an overdraft of £BOOO, has obtained the Government's permission tp increase it to £120,000. The bank has refused, suggesting that the council should ask the Government for the money, which is regarded as an ultimatum to the Government.

Banks have similarly refused to increase other county councils’ overdrafts, despite this being sanctioned by the Government. It is expected the authorities will now order large seizures of the defaulting ratepayers’ property.
