MR R. B. TENNENT.
PRESENTATION BY DUNEDIN OFFICERS. Although his appointment to an executive position in the Department of Agriculture as director of the Fields Division in succession to Mr J. W. Deem dates blck some months, Mr R. B. Tennent has not yet been released from his duties as fields superintendent for Otago and Southland (says the Otago Daily Times). During the past few months, therefore, he has been dividing his time between headquarters in Wellington and the Dunedin office of the department. His active association with the work. of the division in Otago is now drawing, to a close, however, and in recognition of this a farewell function was held in the local branch of the department on Tuesday afternoon. All branches of the service were represented, and glowing tributes to Sir Tennent’s outstanding service, his keenness for the work of experiment and research on which lie has been engaged for the past 14 years, and his willingness to co-operate with the officers of other sections, were paid by spokesmen representative of the fields, live stock, horticultural, and clerical divisions. As a mark of the esteem in which ho was held, Mr Tennent was presented with a fireside chair and a handsome set of carvers. U* acknowledging the expressions of goodwill and the gifts of which he was the recipient, Mr Tennent referred with pleasure to his long association with the department in Otago, and emphasised the fact that throughout Jus service his relations with other divisions had always been characterised by the greatest cordiality. He had enjoyed working with them and was leaving the southern provinces -with a good deal of regret.
