(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Sept. 19.
A mcclitng of parents and friends interested in the Girl Guide movement was held recently. There was a good attendance. Mrs Kilpatrick was voted to the chair. Airs Drew was appointed secretary and Ireasurerer. and the following wore elected a committee :--Mcsda'mes Francis, Fordycc,' Bond, Tostevin, Jessop, Coulter, Pearce, and Grace. At a later date Aliss Willis (Marlon) visited the branch and gave an interesting address oii the aims and objects of the movement. Aliss Davis, captain of the Ilongotea Girl Guides, was also present and put the patrol through their tenderfoot tests ■ and they were enrolled by Aliss Willis. Miss McFarlane_was appointed captain of the troop and Aliss Kilpatrick lieutenant. An enjoyable and interesting afternoon was concluded with the serving of a dainty afternoon tea by members of the committee. A successful concert organised by the Awahuri and' Sandon branches of the Labour Party was given in the Sandon Hall on Tuesday night, under the directors of Mr J. Currie. The singing of Aliss Ponekc (Awahuri) was enjoyed and she is assured of a warm welcome at bandon in the future. The programme was:— Overture, Mr Jack Smith; chorus Company; solo, Mr J. Currie; instrumental item, The Big Four; vocal solo, Air W. Ward; vocal duct, Messrs Andrew anc Qppatt; vocal solo, Miss Ponekc; vocal duets, Messrs Sanson npd Signal, Aleesrs Ward' and Currie;, chorus, the company,; humour, Air L. Flower; poi dance, Maori Party* vocal quartette; Alaori 1 arty; humour, Mr Young; chorus, Maori Party; long poi, Maori Party; vocal solo, Mws fPnoke; haka, Alaori Party; humour, Mr L. Flower; farce, Messrs Cockburn, Kostei, Ward, Karauiti, Currie.
