WOMEN GOLFERS.
CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY OPENS. MRS ROBINSON WINS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 21. The meeting of Mrs Clive Robinson, the Australian champion, and ■'Mrs Dodgshun, who has been twice New Zealand champion, was the main attraction this morning when the first round > of the New Zealand women’s golf championship was played at Titirangi. The weather was perfect and the course fast. Errors in her short game, in which she is notably sound, put Mrs Dodgat a disadvantage in the middle stages of the match, and when the Australian went to the 15tli tee dorniy 4 the contest appeared as good as over, but it was not till the 17th green tha.t the visitor secured the half necessary to settle the issue. Of the other early matches, Miss J. Hammond (Australia) scored an easy win over Miss I. Rota. Miss BarnsGraham was tested by Mrs Finlay, and the veteran, Mrs McCarthy, took Miss O. Stevens to the 16th. Results are : —Mrs J. C. Peacock beat Miss K. Norton, 3 and 4; Miss J. Hammond beat Mrs I. Rota, 7 and 6; Miss Barns-Graha.m beat Mrs J. C. Finlay, 3 and 2; Miss M. AA r ard beat Mrs T. S. AVeston, 1 up; Miss O. Stevens beat Mrs McCarthy, 1 up; Miss E. Hanson beat Miss J. Stevenson, 4 and 3,; Mrs Robinson beat Mrs Dodgshun, 3 and 1; Miss I. Seifert beat Miss P. Lowes, by default.
