WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. On the resumption of the case in which Arthur Cudby, aged 36, and Mervyn John Cudby, aged 32, appeared on ten charges connected with burglaries at Lyall Bay and other places about Wellington, Detective IVaterson said that Mervyn Cudby, when shown a list of houses broken into, denied he had anything to do with breaking into any of the houses. .He said he would plead guilty to being in possession of house-breaking instruments, but would deny breaking into any bouses. Questioned regarding a large sum of money possessed by him and his wife, and how he got the money seeing he had not been working for a considerable time, accused said he won it backing racehorses with two bookmakers. He admitted he had not been working for twelve months. Detective IVaterson said he found at Mr Sterling’s house a lieel mark which corresponded with the rubber heel on a boot found at Mervyn Cudby’s house. The case was adjourned till October 2.
