ROYALTY AT BALMORAL.
PRINCESS MARINA’S STAY. (British Official Wireless.) Received September 20, 12.13 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 19. Prince George spent much of yesterday showing many of the beauty spots around Balmoral to Princess Marina. He called on many of the tenants and introduced them to the Princess. Afterwards the Princess accompanied the King and Queen and her own parents on visits round the estate, while Prince George and his brother, the Duke of York, went deer-stalking in the neighbouring hills. Scottish dances formed the main features of the programme for a ball for the tenants and ghillies on the Royal estates, given at Balmoral Castle. Princess Marina danced the Highland Reel with Prince George. SCENE AT THE BALL.
NO MODERN DANCING. Received September 20, 12.40 p.m. LONDON Sept. 19. Princess Marina was the guest of honour at the special ghillies’ ball at Balmoral, displaying unexpected skill in Scottish reels,. There were 150 male guests, kilted mostly with the Stewart hunting tartan, while the women wore tartan sashes across their corsages. Though the King was only an onlooker, the Queen danced frequently. It was noteworthy that no saxophones or drums were included in the band, as the King dislikes them, while foxtrots and other modern dances were reserved until the King and the Royal guests had left the ballroom. There are plans for a big banquet and another ball at the castle before Princess Marina ends her visit.
