RATE PAYMENT

IN KIWITEA COUNTY. At yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council at Kimbolton, the treasurer (Mr W. Hesseltine) reported that the rebate of 5 xier cent. for prompt payment of rates had brought in the sum of £2465 in general rates for the 30-day period in which the rebate was offered, the rebate thus amounting to £6B. This was about £3lO more in general rates than the sum received in the corresponding per>iod last year. Mr Hesseltine recalled that in one year in the days of prosperity the council received in the 30-day rebate period a general rate payment of over £SOOO. The council expressed its pleasure at the manner in which the rates had been paid this year.
