COUNTING PROCEEDS.

FEDERAL ELECTION VOTES.

DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS. Received September 20, 8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 20. The counting of the primary, absentee, and postal votes recorded in Saturday’s poll is still proceeding and should be concluded by Friday. In the majority of electorates throughout Australia the issue is already beyond doubt, but there are still three interesting contests in New South Wales, one in Queensland, one in Tasmania, and one in Western Australia, which can only be decided by the distribution of the second and third preferences at the week-end.

The United Australia Party already has 34 seats in sight, as compared with 38 in the last Parliament, and is confident it will win at least one more.

The Country Party seems certain of 13 seats, Federal Labour 17, and State Labour eight or nine.
