AUSTRALIANS MAKE 489. HOME SIDE OUT FOR 223; (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received September 11, 9.45 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 10. In fine weather and on a good wicket play was resumed to-day at Scarborough between Hon. H. D. G. Leveson-Gower’s Eleven and the Australians. The visitors carried their score of 442 runs for five wickets at stumps on Saturday to 489. In reply, at the drawing of stumps to-day, the home side were all out in the first innings for 223 runs. Hendren failed to open his account.

Another big and enthusiastic crowd was present when the match was resumed. Fames, in the first two overs, dismissed McCabe and Chipperfield. Oldfield and Ebeling batted brightly. The innings was closed after 350 minutes.

Farnes’s figures to-day were 8.3 overs for 4 maiden overs, 19 runs, 4 wickets. Sutcliffe and Wyatt opened with extreme caution. The total was only twelve when the latter lost his leg stump. Sutcliffe drove a ball straight to Bradman at mid-off, and ran, but Leyland refused and a smart return saw Sutcliffe inn out. ' Hendren failed to see out the same over and the total was then 3 for 20. Human batted brightly, but both Leyland and Nichols were dropped early in their innings. Leyland’s was a very poor effort. Nichols’s 50 occupied 90 minutes. Thereafter Nichols and Townsend hit valiantly. The partnership was worth 99 in 66 minutes, when O’Reilly was recalled and dismissed Nichols with his first ball. Nichols had hit one 6 and 13 4’s. , , . O’Reilly, in the next over, sent back Townsend. The remainder offered little resistance.

As a token of gratitude of Tlieir Majesties’ hospitality and interest, the manager of the Australian cricketers (Mr C. A. Bushby) will shortly send the King and Queen an inscribed album bound in blue morocco, containing the autographs of the players and a series of photographs of the team’s visit to Windsor.

It will be recalled that the Queen, in 1930, requested the Australians to send her photographs of the tour, which they had taken themselves. KENT v. M.C.C. LANCASHIRE LEAGUE. LONDON, Sept. 10. In Lancashire League cricket Hunt took five wickets for 5 runs, and Merritt four for 4. Hird made 108, not out, and took eight wickets. Nelson, for which Constantine took seven wickets, are the cup winners, with Accrington second.
