SUMMER GAMES
TAKARO CLUB’S MEETING. Tlis annual general meeting of the Talcaro Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club was held last evening, Mr A. Cooksley presiding over a good attendance from all sections. There were several apologies for absence. The report (as already published in the “Standard”) was adopted, together with the balance-sheet, the latter showing a credit balance at the bank of £25 15s 7d. Speaking to the report, Mr Cooksley said the financial position was a credit to all the members of the club, particularly those of the croquet and tennis sections. It had not been such a difficult year as the previous one. He felt that several new members could yet be enrolled with the arrival of improved times. Members could be assured of the use of the new courts in the coming season. The executive felt quite proud of the position in every respect, Mr Cooksley commented. Mr H. Smith extended the members’ congratulations to the executive on the excellent results shown.
The election of officers saw the following returned to office for the ensuing period :• —Patron, Mr R. Tanner ; president, Mr A. W. Just; vice-presi-dents, Messrs F. G. Scott and G. Farrar; secretary, Mr D. Spring; treasurer, Mr E. Simpson; bon. auditor, Mr T. B. Arlidge; green superintendent, Mr A. W. Just; executive, to be elected by the respective sections. Sixteen new members were elected to the tennis section, and one new lpember to the croquet section. A vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing officers. It was decided to continue the concession of a rebate of 10 per cent, on subscriptions paid by the end of November, together with a reduction of •ss. Now in operation for. the fourth year, this concession will, in all, reduce the club’s revenue to the extent of about £2O. It was decided to open the greens for the 1934-35 season on Wednesday, October 3, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) and Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., to be invited to attend the ceremony. Mr A. W. Just reported on an inspection of the club’s property and made several recommendations for repairs and improvements. The lacebarks at the rear of the new courts were dying and would require replacing gradually by other trees, he said. He thought all the balance of £25 in hand would be employed in effecting repairs. One tennis court was also in need of attention. A committee comprising Messrs Just, Simpson, G. Simon and Spring was set up to report on the position to a meeting of the executive. Appreciation of the excellent work performed by Mr Simpson in his capacity as greens superintendent was voiced by Mr Cooksley in vacating the chair. Mr Just thanked the club for electing him president. Ho suggested that each section set up its own committees for the consideration of its particular subjects. He said he would endeavour to secure an enjoyable year for all members, and asked for their co-operation. A vote of appreciation, on the motion of Mr Wass, was accorded Mr Cooksley for his excellent services as president of the club. The ladies of the club were thanked for their able assistance towards the finances.
At the conclusion of the business session supper was served by the ladies present.
