AUSTRALIA v. MANAWATU. “The best team that, has ever left Australia” is the description that thier manager (Mr W. Rothwell) has applied to this touring team which will bo meeting the local team to-morrow at the Showgrounds. As the Australians have lived' up to this reputation on their brief tour through New Zealand pn every town played in they have been recipients of high praise) the local team will have to put forward their best effort. The Australians arc not invincible as they have suffered three or four defeats so far, but it is noticeable that those have been sustained on wet, heavy grounds, so a. hard fine ground hero should soe them show their best. They use the short-passing “push” stroke tactics with great effect, which will ho an education to a number of local enthusiasts. This was the typo of game Auckland evolved to meet Manawatu in the Challenge Shied match and used to such success. To help patrons who may- not bo conversant witn the rules of the game a simple summary of the rules is included in the programme, and the Manawatu Hockey Executive hopes that a perusal of these will enable a better understanding of the game to obtained. The early match, Massey College V. Victoria College, promises to be well worth seeing, as Victoria College are one of the leading teair.3 in VVcllington, and Massey College aro fielding the best team they have ever had. Jms match is the annual niter-faculty game to which both colleges look forward with interest. AUSTRALIAN TEAM. Hie following players have been announced to represent the Australian hockey team in the match with Manawatu to-morrow : Reid, Elliott, Rotlnvell, Hayter, Irvine, Lee (captain), Leggett, Stening, Allen, Tester, and Milner. WIN FOR AUSTRALIANS. Per Press Association. OAMARU, Sept. 10. The weather was fine but bitterly cold for the hockey match, Australia v. North Otago, this afternoon. The match was full of bright incidents, Australia winning by 4 goals to 2. Australia registered two goals in the first three minutes and led at half-time by 4 to nil. For Australia goals were scored by Tester (3) and Allen. Clark (2) was the scorer for North Otago.
