WORKERS AT AWAPUNI. SOME ATTRACTIVE EFFORTS. (By “Binocular.”) Conditions were excellent for training operations at Awapuni this morning, although the horses were running into a strong wind coming up the straight. Whereas last week the fast gallops were undertaken next the rails on the course proper, the flags were on the extreme outside this morning. Collodian (S. Anderson), who was prevented from starting at Marton, has made a good recovery from his indisposition. He. was accorded a sprint over three furlongs, coming homo in Husoes. Esteem (S. Anderson) and Raparahara (L. IT. Jones) wero together half a length in front of Hauwai (W, Broughton) after running a mile in 1.49 2-5. They ran the first two furlongs in 27 4-ssecs and five in 1.8 1-5. Catalogue (Chisholm) had Lord Moutoa (Voitre) as a partner over six furlongs, the former travelling well within himself at the close after running the distance in 1.22 3-ssecs and the first three furlongs' in 41secs. Sweet Music (W. Broughton) and Flaxen (L. 11. Jones) finished better than Bee Acre (Tatersall) at the close of a mile. Thoy jumped away slowly and, timed from the seven furlongs post, ran 1.37 2-5 after taking 55 4-ssecs for the first _ half mile. Bpayline (S. Anderson) registered ait attraative effort whon ho beat Palm (Y\. Broughton) by a length. They ran their initial furlongs in 13 l-ssec, three hi. 38 4-ssecs and six in 1.20, Body line finishing strongly. Good Hunting (W. Broughton), who lias not been reproducing his track eflorts with the colours up, boat. Rcreatu (Voitre) over live furlongs in the good time of 1.5, the chestnut having an advantage of a length at the post. Rerepai (voitre) and King lhqmond (Wyncl) kept on terms throughout in a five furlongs sprint, running the distance in 1.6 l-ssecs. , The only gallop ox ecu ted on the plough was that between Invert'd: (Anderson and Calydon (A. McDonald). The former had a slight load throughout and ho held on to it to bo a neck in front _ at the finish after running six furlongs in I.4<J. Inflation, who showed signs of soreness in front whon he pulled up after a gallop last Tuesday, has mado a good recovery and, all going well, lie will shortly bo accorded his first outing for some time. Prior to the mishap he had bcon displaying much of his old brilliance, and it is to bo hoped that his owner will gain a reward for his patience. THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS.
Severe (W. Broughton), the winner ot the two-year-old race at Marton, ran halt a mile in 53sccs. The Limond filly was staying on nicely at tho close. Going Gay (Chisholm) and Corroborcc. (Farland), two youngsters from L. Wilson’s stable, ran threo furlongs m 41 4-5. They got away slowly, hut the latter, who is a brother to Round Table, finished the better although he still shows signs ot greenness. Both are growing fast and they are not being hurried meantime. Martial Lady, a chestnut filly, by Lord Qucx from Dominant, by Martian—Lovelorn is another member of L. uson s team. She is a shade small meantime, bin, is growing and time may bring her added inches. She is a full-sister to Haka who proved to be the best two-yeai-old m South Africa last season . ... TT Legatee (Voitre) and Alchemist (L H. Jones) jumped away from beyond the two furlongs peg to speed up in tho stiaight and conic homo in. 27 2-5, both fimshmg quito attractively with Legatee a shado in Round Up (Anderson) and R °™P al ?"| (W. Broughton) registered 25 1-5 foi two furlongs. The former, who is- a brother to Body line, was in front at the post and it is evident that ho possesses tho family speed. Unfortunately, he also may lack something in inches. Pomposity (Voitre), alone, ran two fur longs in 27secs. This three-quarter sister to the Sydney winner Peacemaker and a close relative to BUxtcn, Wheviko cto, may take longer to come to hand than the other local youngsters. Symcony was unfortunate enough to ieccivo a kick on the knee from a Passing horse tho other morning and it has halted her preparation meantime. However, she showed little sign of the incident trotted on one of the nmei tiacks tins morning. It is uncertain whehei she will race at Wanganui. THE JUMPERS. Sandy Dix, L. Knapp’s new arrival was iumped over a round of tho battens by C. Thomson, giving a display of quick jump “liorrath (C. Broughton), who suffered a fall yosterday, negotiated a round of the hurdle fences quite satisfactorily tins morning. , , ~ , Mr G. H. James, who owned that useful ’chaser Accrvatc, has secured a fullsister to Skyrider and he had her at the tracks yesterday morning tor tiio hrst occasion.
WANGANUI MEETING.
WORK THIS MORNING. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Sept.. 11. A southerly gale over-night dried up the tracks after' Sunday night’s heavy rain, but the going this morning was holding. Rain held off for the early work, but showers fell after breakfast. Midian started proceedings by putting in long pace work. Spiral (W. Rayner) and Korokio (J. Arthur) ran six furlongs, the latter acting as pace maker m the early stages. Spiral was on terms in the straight, going better at the finish. They took 1.19. . , Pomp did two rounds at half-pace, the last two furlongs in 25 4-ssoc. Shu had the better df the start with Entail over a three furlongs spin. The pair were togother at the end in 37 4-ssec. Burnish and Canopy did half a mile together in 50scc. King’s,Knave and Lady Ruler did three furlongs m 38sec and wore together at the finish. Host did six furlongs in 1.19. After breakfast No Humbug did five furlongs in 1.9. Sunee beat Amante easily over five furlongs in 1.4 Peter Jackson did a couple of rounds finishing up fast over the last three furlongs Ruanui and Blue Boy did six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, the former pleasing. Dawn Princess did five furlongs in 1 5 1-5 ' Red Sun (P. Hobson) and Emotion (McRae) jumped five hurdles, the former shaping the better. liukcnmnu (Mcßae) jumped five hurdles well. Passion Fruit, Cyclonic, Redeem, Debut, Cynola and a number of others did serviceable work. TROTTING ASSOCIATION. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 11. Chatham, when trotted this morning, showed a little lameness which was thrown' off when he warmed np. His trainer is well pleased with his condition. An earlier message relating to Chatham appears on page 10. TRAINER_ARRESTED. AUSTRALIAN RACING INCIDENT. Received September 11, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 11. Investigations lasting several weeks have resulted in J. H. O’Connor, the trainer of the racehorse Comedy Jim, being arrested and Comedy Jim being seized by the police. The Northern Rivers Racing Association and the police allege that Com-
edy Jim was raced at Grafton and Casino, where he won races, and that the gelding is identical with a horse called Borapine, which won races at country towns in New South AVales. Prior to O'Connor’s arrest, which took place at Toowoomba (Queensland), the Northern Rivers Racing Association had disqualified him and Comedy Jim for life. MANAWATU TROTTING CLUB. NOMINATIONS OF OFFICERS. Nominations for the various executive positions on the Manawatu Trotting Club closed at noon to-day when the following were received: —President, Mr W. Mouldey; vice-presidents, Messrs H. J. Woodfield and G. Luoni; hon. treasurer, Mr C. P. Nash; committee, Messrs R. Emmett, W. Douglas, G. C. Francis and F. Smith. As the nominations do not exceed the required number, an election will not be necessary.
