In the fourth grade game between St. Paul’s and Te Awe Awe 0.8. the ground was a quagmire, as, besides two other games being played on the ground, heavy rain set in soon after the start. St. Paul’s were unfortunate in not being able to field a full team. Play opened quietly, with Te Awe Awe doing most of .the pressing, but it was some time before they were able to open their account, a good shot from well out by Nicholls beating Baker. It was not long before Allan scored a second goal after a fine run through. St. Pa.ul’s then took a turn, but found Collins very safe in goal. Play was soon transferred to the other end, where McShane beat Baker with a shot which gave him no chance. Allan was soon awav again and secured goal No. 4 for Te Awe Awe. St. Paul’s kept going hard in spite of the score, and Smith just missed when in a good position to score. Curtis relieved and sent the ball to Allan to score a fifth goal for Te Awe Awe. Hearsey made a great effort for St. Paul’s and was only stopped bv Curtis when on the point of scoring. Smith next had a try for St. Paul’s and shot just outside the post. He had another attempt later and succeeded in opening St. Paul’s score. It was not long after the interval that Allan scored again. St. Paul’s then forced play downfield and secured a oorner, but although .Scotter centred well no goal resulted. McShane secured and racing downfield, scored goal No. 7 for Old Boys. A penalty for hands enabled St. Paul s to score their second goal. Again, soon after, Scotter made a good run to finish up by scoring a good goal. 7—3. Towards tho end of the game Bridge made a fine solo run downfield and finished up by scoring a great goal. The match finished soon after with the score B—3 in Te Awe Awe’s favour. Mr F. W.
