FILAI AIAGNATE’S ENGAGEAIENT. Received August 6, 12.55 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 5. There is much interest in film circles in England in a telegram received by the Daily Express from New York that the “American friends of Air Joseph Schenck, the film magnate, are expecting momentarily the announcement of his engagement to Aliss Alerle Oberon. She was a member of a house party Air Schenck attended at Alonte Carlo. It is expected the marriage will take place in Europe and it is surmised Air Schenck will build' Aliss Oberon into a. star, as he did his former wife, Aliss Norma Talmage.” A Nice report says: “A romance recently begun in London hns resulted in the engagement of the Tasmanian, Aliss Alerle Oberon, aged 23, to Air Schenck, aged 51, the president of the United Artists’ Film Corporation. REPORT CONTRADICTED. MONTE CARLO STATEMENT. Received August 6, 1.45 p.m. ALONTE CARLO, Aug. 6. Miss Oberon and Air Schenck attended a gala diner at the Casino on Sunday night. Air Schenck, interviewed, said it was quite correct that lie was engaged to Aliss Oberon. The latter, however, said she was not engaged and this was confirmed by her father, who is also at Alonte Carlo. Air Schenck goes to New York on Wednesday, when Aliss Oberon returns to London to film “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” Sho is under contract for four years, but it contains no marriage clause. The Daily Telegraph’s Alonte Carlo correspondent says the engagement is most probable, but is not being announced officially before Mr Schenck returns to England in October.
