SHIPPING HOLD-UP.
SEQUEL IN COURT. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, Aug. 4. As a sequel to the shipping hold-up at Greymouth, 92 seamen, firemen and trimmers from the vessels in port were charged to-day in the Police Court with refusal to obey orders. Most of the pleas were of “not guilty” and the Union Company did not press for a penalty if the men were prepared to take the ships to sea, otherwise the maximum penalty was asked for. Mr Gray, for the men, said they were prepared to take out the ships if the wage cuts were restored. The hearing is proceeding.
An earlier message appears ou page 9. PARER A HELD UP. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. The Parera is still one man short in the crew and Holm and Co. will pay her off on Monday and lay her up.
