THE NEW BROOM

RULE IN AUSTRIA.

GREATER AMITY SOUGHT,

COURT-MARTIALS CONTINUE. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 3, 9.20 a.m. VIENNA, Aug. 2. A court-martial sentenced Paul Hudl, an ex-army officer, to life-long penal servitude for complicity in the attack on the Chancellery. They found that he was not the ringleader, and therefore did not deserve the death penalty. To-day’s release of the popular exBurgomaster (Herr Seitz) and other Social-Democrat leaders who were ar-

rested in February, also a hundred Socialists and numerous Communists from concentration oamps, is regarded as an effort to establish amity between Dr Schuschnigg (Chancellor) and the So-cial-Democrats and also evidence of Dr Schuschnigg’s recognition of the impossibility of fighting two fronts. The Chancellery is again surrounded by barbed wire entanglements. Ten high police officials have been arrested, and will be court-martialled on charges of being in secret communication with the organisers of the attack on the Chancellery. MASS FOR DR DOLLFUSS.

Received August 3, 9.10 a.m. BERLIN, Aug. 2. Herr Von Papen, on behalf of Herr Hitler, attended Requiem Mass for Dr Dollfuss at the St. Hedwice Cathedral.
