TURNOVER OF £149,365.

Seven important lotteries were conducted with the permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs last year, and the department’s annual report gives the financial results. In every case £4OOO was distributed in prizes, and the individual results of each lot-
tery were as follow : “Luck at Last” : Gross sales, £22,405; net profits, £9905. “My Lucky Chance” : £21,346, £9263. “Better Times” : £21,006, £9005. “Happy Moments” : £19,510. £7BBB. “Smiling Thru” : £22,958, £10,279. “Lucky Surprise” : £21,433, £9174. “Golden Chance” : £20,704, £8542. This represented a gross turnover of £149,365 in cash, balanced by the fol-
lowing items: Commissions, £22,404;
expenses, £19,964; prizes, £28,000; net proceeds, £78,995; from which lottery duty was deducted to the extent of £14,936. Of the net profits £31,500 was distributed to local mayors’ funds or other central relief funds for the relief of distress, £13,300 was paid to a number of organisations rendering social relief, a.nd the balance was allocated to various bodies carrying on services of community value.
