REFUSAL TO VACATE.

TENANT IN DEMOLISHED PREMISES. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, .July 21. An extraordinary position lias arisen at premises in the centre of the city, the corner of Gloucester and Colombo Streets, where Carey’s building is being demolished to make room for a new theatre. The tenant of the Rose Marie Toilet Rooms upstairs, Mrs G. Stribling, refuses to vacate. She is opposed to the destruction of the premises as her lease does not expire till August 13. Meanwhile, the demolition work is proceeding all around her. with walls falling and hammers banging. Even the stairs are down, and last night Airs Stribling and her assistant had to leave by getting out of the window on to a verandah.

This morning she was again in her room. Her solicitor says she is entitled to stay where she is.
