(From Our Own Correspondent.) AITTI, July 23. After being forced to postpone the Inaction twice on account of the snow, the Apiii Sports Club were favoured with a line night for their tug-of-war and dance on Thursday. There was a good attendance and though there were not the numb.r of teams entered that had been anticipated, the contests were close and keen. Uroua proved to be the winning team, beating in tile linal AJ t. Richards Road. Members of the successful team were Messrs C. F. Viles, J. McKay, <J. Osborne, T. Beilaki, and (J. McKay. An enjoyable supper was sawed by an energetic committee and the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by -Mrs 15. Kearney. Mrs K. Waterson and Mr J. Cawood contributed extras and Mr C. F. Viles earned out the duties of M.O.

The deciding match for the senior challenge. cup between Apiti and Waitima was played on Saturday before a large attendance of Rugby enthusiasts. Although Apiti held the advantage throughout, the game was not devoid of interest. Wa!tuna made strenuous efforts to break through the defence without avail and the match ended 11 points to nil in Apiti’s favour. E. Schmidt and R. AlcAae scored one try cacti, L. i’awson converting a try and kicking a penalty goal. .Mr J. Dixon, of Marten, held the whittle. Apiti now hold both senior and junior challenge cups and both teams were successful at the Uroua seven-aside tourney last week. The junior team played their first game for the Mitchell Shield against Rangiwahia on Saturday and after a hard game under the most unpleasant weather conditions were defeated by 11 points to 8. Mr A. Tonkins refereed.

Apiti are having their fair share of enow this winter, there being another light fall on Sunday night. Farmers are having a busy time feeding their stock and a marked improvement in the weather would be welcomed.

Keen Interest is being shown in the queen carnival organised by the School Comittee: The votes handed in to date are as follow :—.Miss Pat Cave (wool), 420; Miss Helen Wurnock (dairy), 350. Mr and Mrs M. Williamson, of Utiku, were week-end viators to Apiti when they were the guests of Mr and Mrs \V. Hogan. Mrs S. Martin lias returned from a holiday spent m Dunedin. .Miss Alarm .McKay has returned to Halcotnbe after a few days spent with her parents, Air arid Airs \Y. McKay. Mr D. Straban and Mr O. Watkins are on a holiday visit to Auckland. Air and Airs A. Viles. of Alarton Block, have returned From a vi.sit to Wellington. Mr A. .Meads, of Hmiterville, is staying with Air and Mrs J. Cave. Aiiss Joyce Brumfield is visiting her sister, Mrs R. Aluir. Air and Airs IT. Watson have been visiting Napier. T hey were accompanied by Airs D. Swill. Miss M. Paler'ison is visiting friends in Bulls. Mr L. I’awson received injuries to a shoulder in the A pii i-Waif una match oil Saturday and was compelled to seek medical attention.
