MEETING OF BUSINESS MEN.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l notice a deputation of business men waited on the City Council last evening regarding a loan for the unemployed. The chief spokesman (Mr J. C. Young) stated that it was the result of a meeting of business men who had met to consider the matter. I would like to ask Air Young a few questions: (1) When was this meeting of business men held? (2) Why was it not made public so that all ratepayers and business men could have had the opportunity of attending ? (3) Why was it deemed necessary to confine the meeting to a few citizens ? In my opinion a properly convened public meeting should have been held and a properly authorised deputation to the City Council appointed. A reply to my questions will be appreciated.—Yours, etc., CITIZEN.
