TENNIS DEFEAT

3.45 P.M. EDITION

HOW AUSTRALIANS LOST. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received June 4, 2.20 p.m. LONDON, June 3. Dir Wallis Myers, in the Daily Telegraph, commenting on the defeat of Crawford and McGrath by Borotra and Brugnon in the final of the French doubles, says: “Against Crawford and McGrath the Frenchmen, true to their habit, began erratically, but McGrath faltered badly at the end of the first set, when the Australians were within a stroke of s—l. Crawford in the fourth set was playing on his nerves rather than on his physical reserves, but made heroic efforts in the fifth set. McGrath, when the Australians in the last set were leading 7—6, played with the coolness of a veteran, but lost the service in the fifteenth game, although he was not entirely to blame. “With Borotra rampant in the next game, and Crawford obviously worn out, the Frenchmen won through. The Australians were great in recovery, but less great in clinching this advantage and allowed victory to elude them.” An earlier message appears on page
