RANGITIKEI.

LICENSING COMMITTEE. MARTON, June 2. The annual meeting of the Rangitikei Licensing Committee was held this week, Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., presiding. Also present on the Bench wero Messrs F. Purnoll, W. Price, G. Bray, G. T. Avery and F. R. H. Brice. Ronowals of licenses woro granted to S. J. Gibbons (White Hart Hotel, Marton), A. J. Gatrell (Marton Hotol), E. C. Haddock (Club Hotel, Marton), V, M. McCarthy (Royal Hotel, Wanganui), G. Carmichael (Railway Hotel, Marton Junction), R. M. Holder (Railway Hotel, Turakina), H. G. Webb (Bon Nevis Hotel, Turakina), J. Quirk (Gretna Hotel, Taihape), P. E. Wakcman (Erns Hotel, Taihape), J. Hannan (Wangaehu Hotel), Barraud and Abraham, Ltd. (Marton) secured a renowal of their wholesale license. The request of the district health officer that electric fire alarms should be installed in all hotels was before the meeting. Speaking on behalf of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, Mr J. R. L. Stanford said that licensees were of the opinion thta tho expense of such a system was not warranted. Most hotels kept night porters and all had adequate fire escapes whilo in Marton and Taihape there were nightwatchmen. Tho committee decided that in hotels where thero was no night porter a large alarm boll should be hung on the landing.
