RACING AT OTAKI.

AESCULUS WINS CUP. GOOD HUNTING’S SPRINT. The first day of tho Otaki Maori Racing Club’s annual winter meeting was held on Saturday in dull but fine weather, except for a brief shower. The courso was slow after overnight rain, and recent form was not a reliablo guide, outsiders prevailing in most of the events. Aesculus scored a very easy win in the Raukawa Cup. Ho is’ owned by Mr T. H. Dowry and trained at Groenmcadows by R. Alexander. In tbo open sprint Good Hunting was a winner practically all the way. Tho attendance was very fair, and tlie totalisatOr returns showed a slight increase, totalling £5297, as against £4489 10s last year. RACING IN DETAIL. Here Ralbus had run up, also Wmdsoreon, who'had been left at the start. Windscreen could not run on, but Balbus was clear at the lead into the straight. Hybiscus had a lead of three or four lengths in the running' from Bollbroncy, who, in turn, was clear of Bay Area, Bon Rapide, Swift and Sure, Pladio, and Host. Hybiscus was still well clear with a furlong to go, but Swift and Sure gradually wore him clown to win decisively. Bollbronoy just hung on for third from Pladio, who was closelv attended by Bon Rapide, and then a gap to Host and Lady Ronald. RUAKAWA CUP HANDICAP, of £175; second £2O, third £lO. Aekculus moved forward and took charge on the turn, and ran away for a comfortable wm over Nightguard. who was even more comfortably second from Oriel.
