HOROWHENUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Juno 1. Mrs Wiggins, of Wanganui, is at present on a visit to Otaki, staying with her brother, Mr Wilson. Miss Muir left on Tuesday by the Maunganui for Sydney. She is proceeding to Melanesia. Mr C. R. Baker, of tho Otaki Railway staff, left-to-day for tho north ori holiday, accompanied by Mrs Baker. Mr J. B. Meachen, who recently returned from his holidays, has resumed his duties. The funeral of tho late Mrs A. I. Mackay took place at Paraparaumu on Wednesday, when there was a lengthy and representative cortege. Rev. W. H. Carroll, of Otaki, conducted an impressive service at the residence, and also at tho graveside. A large number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on tho coffin. At the monthly meeting of the Otaki Plunkot Society, Mrs Milne presided. The election of the executive sub-committee took place, the following seven ladies being appointed: Mrs Milne (president), Dr Atmoro, Mesdames Cockrell and Higgins (vice-presidents), Mesdames Morton, Fiebig/ and Miss Gilmer, with the secretary added. A discussion took place on the finances and it was decided that an effort be made to stimulate' interest in the society in Manakau and Paraparaumu, and that tho secretary write to the Women’s Institutes of both districts, suggesting that the Plunket Society committee provide a speaker on insttiute day to lecture on Plunket work.
