TENNIS IN FRANCE
E. D. ANDREWS BEATEN. WOMEN PLAYERS’ MISFORTUNES. PROGRESS OF PLAY. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received May 25, 1.10 p.m. PARIS, May 24. The French lawn tennis championships were resumed in Paris to-day, when the second round of play was entered. The New Zealander, E. D. Andrews, was unable to cope with the quickness of Gentien, and was beaten in a four-set contest.
The Franco-Ameriean women’s match was marred by mishaps. Miss Marble, who had been indisposed for several days, insisted on playing against her doctor’s advice, opposing Mile. Henrotin, who was leading 4—l in the first set when Miss Marble suddenly fell in a dead faint and was taken to hospital. She was ordered a lengthy rest.
Later, Mile. Henrotin, playing in the doubles, fell, injuring a knee. Both matches w T ere abandoned.
France won by 5 matches to 2 Details are as follow: MEN’S SINGLES.

WOMEN’S SINGLES. First round.—Miss Hartigan beat Mile. Goldschmidt, 6—4, 6—2: Mrs Molesworth beat Signorina Manzutto, 6—2, 6—3. Second round.—Miss Scriven (the holder) beat Mile. Couquerque, 2—6, 6—4, 6—3.
