RANGIOTU
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, May 23.
The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday evening. Air J. A. Shaw presided, also present being -Messrs 1). O. Moore, J. Duncan, li. Carkeek and E. Russell (secretary). The chairman reported that Miss York, of Foxton, had commenced her duties that day (the opening of the school) an relieving headmistress, and that Miss Thompson (the headmistress) had been granted one week’s sick leave. The school opened with an attendance of 14 out of a total roll number of 60, the drop being brought about by the recent outbreak of measles. Mr Shaw reported that, with Mr Moore, he attended the meeting of the Manaw'atu and Oroua School Committees’ Association, held recently, when several matters of direct importance to the school were discussed, especially the entrance age and the question of transport of secondary school pupils. Since the last meeting of the committee repairs to the school chimney had been completed by the board’s bricklayers. Accounts amounting to 10s lOd were passed for payment. The question of augmenting the general funds of the committee was discussed, when suggestions of either holding a grand concert or a ball wero made. The meeting resolved that the matter be held over until the next meeting of the committee. School football came under review. Owing to the recent outbreak of measles affecting a large number of the pupils, the committee was of the opinion that the combined Rangiotu-Bainesse team would not be able to participate in any of the games scheduled for the first round. It was resolved that a report be furnished and submitted in a fortnight’s time and at subsequent periods to the controlling body of school football in the sub-union. A further resolution was that the school holiday for the Winter Show be Friday, June 15. The committee pointed out that it .had been generally the custom to select the day when the annual Rugby match between the Te Aute Maori College and Palmerston North High School took place. On the motion of the chairman, a vote of. sympathy was passed to Miss Thompson in her illness and wishing her a speedy recovery. The Huia juniors to play Ohakea at Ohakea on Saturday will be selected from the following: S. Matai, S. Knox, E. Donaldson, I. Dunford, P. Hill, E. Donaldson, M. MeCullum, E. Pinker, J.
