HELD OVER WOOL.
PREFERENCE AT SALES
“That the Dominion executive be asked to arrange with the Wool Brokers’ Association to give preference at wool sales to new season’s clips as against held-over wool, this preference to apply particularly when new season’s wool is already in wool store with definite instructions to sell,” was a remit put forward at the interprovincial conference of the Farmers’ Union in Wanganui yesterday. Mr Cotter (Eketahuna), in proposing the adoption of the remit, pointed out that the man who had held wool for two or three years could sell at any time during the year. If held-over wool was sold before a new season’s clip ill-feeling was caused. The man with held-over wool suffered no hardships as compared with the man who had to meet the market.
Mr Jackson (Masterton) seconded the remit. He considered that heldover wool should not be offered at the first three sales.
Mr Knight (Feilding) said his wool had been sent to Wellington twelve davs before a sale, but still had been held back in preference for held-over wool. The small holder should be protected against the big holder of wool, he contended. Mr Stewart moved and Mr Richardson seconded: —“That the Dominion executive be asked to arrange with the Wool Brokers’ Association to make a rule that only 25 per cent, of old wool be accepted at each sale, the other 75 per cent, to be current season’s clips.” The amendment was lost and the original remit was carried on the voices.
