IMPORTANT RULING.

BY HIGH COURT. MELBOURNE, May 23. The High Court to-day delivered judgment in an important will case relating to a gift of shares as a nucleus for the establishment of a Roman Catholic daily newspaper. The testator was Patrick Lawlor, who died in Rome in 1932, leaving estate worth £IOB,OOO. The Court upheld the decision of the State Full Court that testator’s gife of shares for a newspaper was not a valid gift for charitable purposes. The Court also held that a grant of one-half of the balance of Lawlor’s estate to the Roman Catholic hierarchy was invalid.
