The two-year-old pacer Levity is bowling’along in a gratilying manner at Addington, and he looks as if ho will go to the post fit and at the top of his form for the New Zealand Sapling Stakos, which will be decided at the Ashburton Trotting Clubs winter meeting early next month. Levity may race before then and may defeat a field of horses of all ages up to a mile and a The six-year-old pacer Mountain Jewel, who won comfortably on each day at Invercargill, was got by Blue Mountain King ftom a mare by Stronghold, who won the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes D.J.C. Champagne Stakes and Middle Park Plate. Stronghold also won over hurdles (states “Sentinel” in the Otago Daily Time). As a rule a horso than can jump can also trot and siro trotters. . A Brown has taken Auto Machine in hand again at Epsom, and the black horse is in great order to begin another preparation. Auto Machine was working very pleasingly prior to the Auckland February meeting, and tho chances of his extending his winning record appeared bright, but soreness on the eve of tho meeting necessitated a short spell. He is now being prepared with a view to competing at the Auckland winter fixture in June, but has never previously raced to advantago in soft going. Rollo, who made his reappearance at Forbury Park after a good spell, lias suffered no ill effects from his exertions in the mud, and he appears to be in fine order for engagements at the Canterbury Park winter meeting. While Rollo handles heavy going better than most horses, it should not be forgotten that ho is a very capable pacer on top of the ground, as is shown by his record of 4min 20sec for two miles. At times lie has been slow to leave tho harrier, but once on the journey lie has proved a raro stayer. S. Groat is allotting Mountain Flight plcntyof solid work at Epsom and the three-year-old is working in very taking style. Mountain Flight has only started on one occasion, this being when she finished fifth in the Dargaville Handicap at the Northland meeting at Epsom. On that occasion she did not begin very smartly, but was making up .ground very _ solidly over tho last half-mile. She has improved considerably as the result of tho race and her with the filly, as she is a very level-headed owner should enjoy a successful season pacer and possesses a nice turn of speed.
