A statement that his firm believed definitely that there was something in tho chilled beef trade for Dominion brooders was made to-day by Mr P'. J. Borthwick, of Messrs T. Borthwick and Sons. He added that his firm intended to go right ahead with frequent shipments. The consignment sent from the Wairarapa in March last arrived in England in first-class condition. The fourth shipment from tlio Wa.irarapa was on the water at tho present time, and a further consignment would be sent at the end of the month. Shipments would also be made from Auckland this month. DAIRY PRODUCE. BUTTER FIRM AT 73-755. W. AVeddcll and Co., Ltd., report dated London, May 9 : —Butter: Danish, 84s; New Zealand finest, 73s to 755; Kangaroo finest, 71s to 735. Cheese: New Zealand white and coloured, 43s 6d to 445. Both markets firm. (71s to 725); market steady. Cheese: White, 44s per cwt. (42s 6d); coloured, 43s 6d per cwt. (42s to 42s 6d); market firm. DAIRY COMMISSION. BUSINESS AT SITTING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 10. Evidence by the Director of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture (Mr W. M. Singleton) occupied the attention of the Dairy Industry Commission at its sittings to-day. Mr Singleton’s evidence was largely concerned with the department’s instructional activities and matters relating to the grading and quality of dairy products. He was questioned at length by members of tbe Commission, and his examination took the whole of the day. It had teen intended to call also the Assistant Director-General of the Department of Agriculture (Mr A. H. Cockayne), but his evidence will now bo taken to-morrow. The question of holding sittings in other centres has teen considered, and it has been tentatively decided that the Commission would hear evidence at Stratford, Hamilton and Auckland. Buyers offered par for Wellington Racing Club, 8 per cents., 1935, without response. Banks were steady and quiot, the only recorded business being Union of Australia at £lO lato on Wednesday. There was a good inquiry for finance and pastorals. Buyers of Abraham. and W’illiams preference moved up to 80s. Insurance shares wero very firm on a strong demand. New Zcalanus hardened to 60s 4d, and South British to 78s 9d. Standards moved up to 61s 9d, sellers asking 62s 3d. In the frozen meat sic tion, Gears had sales on ’change at 295, and Southlands advanced to 64 s. There wero no movements of much note in the other sections of the market.
