(From Our Own Correspondent.) UTUWAI, May 10. The Kia. Ora Basketball Club’s second annual dance was held in the Utuwni Hall on Tuesday evening, and despite the inclement weather there was a largo attendance with visitors from. Apiti, Pohangina, Awahou North, and Kimbolton. The social committee spared no effort to make the function a success and the hall presented a very bright and inviting appearance, with its walls hung with greenery and ferns, while the ceiling was trellised with streamers in the chib’s colours (black and white) and with gay balloons. Splendid music was supplied by Mrs J. Kearney, of Apiti, and extras were played by Miss Signal. Mr C. Duffy was ill the role of M.C. and everything went with a swing. Novelty dances added to the enjoyment of tbo evening, the lucky chain waltz being won by Miss D. Prince (Apiti) and Mr A. Roberts, while Miss K. Caldwell and Mr L. Wagstaff were the winners of the Monte Carlo. The delectable supper served proved an enjoyable break in the evening’s dancing, and it was in the early hours that the dance terminated. Foot, blue and lemon organdie; R. Duffy, blue foam crepe; M. Harland, blue sprigged organdie; B. Wingate, pink floral georgette; A. Roberts, red velvet; E. Wingate, pink corded satin; I. Roberts, floral voile; E. Roberts, blue georgette; J. McEwen. daffodil satin; D. McEwen, red satin; E. Sinclair, pink taffeta and velvet; J. Enright, floral voile; O. Hem tilings, black velvet; IC. Searle, sunset frilled georgette: M. Signal, autumn-shaded chenille; M. Stevens, mauve crinkle crepe; R. Hitchman, Arab corded velvet; L. Osborne, black and gold phantom crepe; D. Prince, green floral organdie.
