(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' OTAKI, May .9. Nearly forty members of the Students’ Christian Movement are enjoying a lio.iday at the Otaki Beach. Wet and wintry weather has prevailed in Otaki since Thursday last, and up to 4.30 p.m. yesterday the rainfall was 2.53 inches. The heaviest fall was on the sth (1.38 in). ‘ . The first of a series of eocials in connection with the Anglican Church was held on Monday night, when, despite counter-at-tractions and inclement weather, there was a good attendance. The funeral of Mbs Joyce Atkinson took place on Monday afternoon, when there was a representative following. Members of the Borough Council, Women’s Institutes, and a number of Girl Guides in uniform were present. The ceremonies at the residence of tlio parents and at the graveside were conducted by Rev. F. S. Rainson, and a number of beautiful floral tributes, also two valuable Maori mats, were placed on the coffin. Miss Harvey, of Napier, is on holiday in Otaki. Mr A. Furse, who underwent an operation, is reported to be making good progress. Among visitors to Otaki is Miss Letts, who is staying with Mrs Synnott. Mr Arthur Knox, who has been in the Palmerston North Hospital, has returned to Otaki. Mr and Mrs Buchanan are on holiday in Otaki, staying witli Mr and Mrs Lowry. Mrs C. Cooksley, who has been in indifferent health for some time, was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital on Monday night. Messrs Frank Higgott and Turea Webster, with the two apprentices, D. Atkins and F. Hume, leave for Sydney to-morrow, taking with them the racehorses Movie Star, Buyacre, The Mirror, Perfect Idea, Prostration, and Arctic Region. Mr A. D. Webster will follow next week and may be accompanied bv Mrs Webster and family.
