MOTHERS’ DAY APPEAL.
(To the Editor.) Sir,- —May I through the columns of your paper draw the attention of citizens to the appeal being made on Saturday next for Mothers’ Day. This appeal was instituted in Palmerston North some few years ago, aaid quite a substantial sum has been raised annually by the sale .of white roses, for which I am deeply grateful. The funds so raised are devoted to assisting mothers that are in need of warm clothing for winter or some other more pressing necessity. Unfortunately the number of mothers requiring assistance in the past has been such that, with the funds at our disposal, the ladies’ committee have not been able to render all the help they would have liked. May I, therefore, make a special appeal for this year, as the winter which is just upon us gives every indication of being the most trying one we have vet experienced. The young ladies, tovs, and others selling the roses on Saturday will carry with them the official Mothers’ Day collection box. I commend this appeal to our ever generous citizens, feeling sure that it will receive their ready support.—l am, etc.. A. E. MANSFORD, Mayor.
