On Friday night a wind-up of the Carnarvon Tennis Club was held in the Carnarvon School. “Flag 500” was the order of the evening, and an enjoyable time was spent by ail. Winners of the “500” were Mies Rita Dixon and Miss Dulcie Burne, Mr W. Burne and Mr George Goldfinch. The winners of the tennis competitions are: —Ladies’ handicap singles, Mrs Brereton; ladies’ doubles, Misses Nancy Lindsay and Edna Will; men’s singles, Mr George Goldfinch; men's doubles, Messrs W. Burne and J. C. Gibbons. An opportunity was taken during the evening to make presentations, on behalf of the Tennis Club, to Miss Rita Dixon, Miss. Helga Hansen, and Miss Phyllis Frecklington, who are shortly to be married. Mr Gibbons made the presentations. The ycung ladies each suitably replied. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute' was held to-day, Mrs P. Scott presiding over a good attendance. It was decided not to send delegates to the Dominion conference in Wellington in July. The delegates for the Federation conference at Palmerston North next week and for group meetings are Mrs P. Scott and Mrs Sandercock, the last named being the voting delegate. A demonstration, pine needle ■work, was wiven by Mrs Sandercock. Mrs McKenzie, who was to have assisted, sent an apology for her absence. Mrs AVill was elected a new member. The competitions wore the best ironed linen tablecloth and best damask cloth. Both were Won by Miss Nancy Scott. The judges were Mrs Rose and Miss Rose. In the potato competitions 18 entries were received in the senior division. Mrs Powell was the winner with 321 b. Mrs Rex McKelvie and Miss Vera Scott were second with 301 b each. Among the juniors, four entries were received. Miss R. Newport was the winner with 371 b, Miss Isabel Seottt (121 b) was second, and Miss N. McTavish (111 b) third.' Prizes were donated by Mesdames Webby and J. Scott and Mieses V. Scott and B. Reeve. Visitors welcomed were Mrs Edhouse, Miss Will, Miss Brassington, Mrs Rose, and (Miss Rose. The hostesses were Mesdames Warren, Teague, Powell, and Gennills. The programme for next month was left in the hands of the young ladies. The hostesses are to be Mesdames P. Scott, Sandercock, Armitage, and Luxford. The drama circle reported good progress and two plaj-s are to be produced. A vote of thanks, moved by the president, was passed to the judges, hostesses, and donors of prizes. Mr W. Corry has returned home. Mrs Edhouse, of Ohakune, is visiting her sistei, Airs Goldfinch. Miss Brassington is the guest of Miss Ayres. Mrs Connelly and Mr F. Wright, of Palmerston North, are the guests of Mr G. R. McKenzie. The friends of Air Sandercock will be pleased to know that he is improving. Air Percy Scott has returned from Ohingaiti. On Saturday at Carnarvon Wanderers (Feilding) will play the local team, play to commence at 3 p.m. Carnarvon ladies to play at Ohakea will be picked from the following; Alisses N. and I. Scott, AV. Clare, E. and E. Hill, AI. Teague, P. Frecklington, B, Reeve, J. George, Al. Bottcher, T. Rose, and Al. Eraser. A concert party from the Bulls branch of the R.S.A. paid a visit to Air J. F. McKelvie on AA’cdncsday evening, when an enjoyable time was passed.
