71 APPLICATION'S RECEIVED. The Feilding Borough Council sat last nicht at a special meeting to consider the applications for the position of town cleric, rendered vacant by the appointment of Mr N'. C. Harding to Hastings. When the time for the closing of 'applications arrived at dose of business yesterday afternoon. 71 candidates for the position had forwarded their qualifications, and following a lengthy perusal of these the council reduced the number to three. These applicants are to be informed, and will be called upon to appear before the council, when the final selection will be made.
