WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Although the volume of trading was less than on Wednesday, there was a further hardening yesterday in the Wellington stock and share market. Government loans continued in unabated demand with but little response from holders, whose few offers showed no concessions. The only recorded sale was a parcel of the 4 per cent stock, 1940, at £lO4. More activity was seen in local body and another debentures. Banks were neglected. New Zealands again had dealings at 48s 6d and 48s sd; and there was an unsatisfied demand at the latter figure. Pastoral shares were very firm. Abraham and Williams advanced a shilling to 48s and 76s for tho ordinary and preference respectively. Goldsbrough Morts were stronger at 345, without response. Gas and insurance shares were firm and little or no change was seen,in meat shares. Union Steam, preference, improved to 25s 6d. New Zealand Breweries were distinctly better on sales at 40s 9d and 41s 3d. Miscellaneous shares were steady at about late rates. There was a sustained inquiry for Moturoa and Taranaki Oils, the latter advancing to 2s Bd, Gold-mining shares were quiet but steady. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
Buying and selling quotations at yesterday’s final call on the Wellington Stock Exchange were as follow: — Buyers. Sellers.
