PROTECTION BILL.

DEFENDING INDIAN PRINCES. STATEMENT BY GANDHI. Received April 19, 11.30 a.m. CALCUTTA, April 18. After strong opposition, the Legislative Assembly passed the States Protection Bill, which is designed to protect Indian princes against attacks, frequently scurrilous, on the States administration, and on the personal life of the rulers, appearing in Nationalist papers and books in British India. Mr Gandhi, interviewed at Jorhat, Assam, declared that while he considered the Congressmen could, and should, co-operate with the Government in the Legislatures, lie never knew when the time might come to ask his sympathisers to resume the struggle against the Government. He had no regrets for his past acts of civil disobedience.
