(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, April 18. Mr E. J. Bowalcr presided at tho annual meeting of householders on Monday night. Tfie attendance was fair. Prior lo taking the ordinary business o£ the meeting the chairman referred to the loss sustained by the deaths of Mr Bree (secretary of the Education Board), Miss Crouchor and Rev. P. J. Cossum. A motion of sympathy was carried in silence. The report and balance-sheet were read. The report stated:—- “The Education Board erected a new shelter shed for the boys. It was intended to convert the old shed into a wood, tool and cycle shed, but the work has not yet been carried out. The board also erected a cupboard in which to keep the school records. Our application for repairs to the western boundary fence and painting of the school is under consideration. The roll at the beginning of the year was 55 and at the end 53. At present it is 59. We are pleased to report, a 100 per cent pass at tho last examination, which reflects the highest credit on the teaching staff. The School Committees’ Association is making steady progress and it is hoped will be supported by the new committee. We express appreciation to Mrs Tomlinson for a donation of trees, for Arbor Day, one of which was planted in memory of Rev. P. J. Cossum. The Calf Club is doing good work. Sydney Keystone was successful in getting into the final judging at Feilding. We wish to thank Mr H. J. Fagan for his untiring efforts in the interests of the club. The picnic was a change and appeared to be appreciated by the children. Award books were also given to each of the children attending school. Two teams competed in the McKclvio and Hornblow Shield competitions and performed creditably. The boys played several games of football and we record our thanks to Mr Ken Lumsdcn for his help. The girls’ basketball team has improved, thanks to tho coaching of Mrs Earl Bowater. The Tennis Club is showing an interest in the children and it is probably time to consider the laying down of a hard court at the school. The gardens are in good order and it is pleasing to note that 4s was realised for the sale of vegetables. This amount is placed to the credit of the school hook fund. The school last year was awarded an environment certificate; this has been framed in a suitable manner and hung in the school. White butterflies to the number of 50.000 were caught by tho children and prizes donated by Mrs Dwyer and Mr P. Gedve were won by Pearl Meyer mid Erie Livingston. Thanks are due to the teachers for organising a concert and to Mr H. V. Bond for decorations and drosess. For conducting community singing Mr J. Currie has earned our thanks. Wo wish to thank also Mr A. K. Drew for auditing the accounts. Donations were made by Messrs G. H. Bennett, ,T. M. Crouchor, D. Hammond, H. J. Fagan and Nicol Bros., to whom we extend thanks. The general account at February 28 showed a credit of £1 9s 6d and the special account a credit of £lB 12s 9d. This we consider very satisfactory. Wo extend to the staff, parents and friends our thanks for their assistance during a difficult, hue very pleasant year.” Mr 11. J. Fagan expressed appreciation to the committee. A vote of appreciation to the teaching staff was carried. Mr A. Anderson brought forward a resolution passed at; tho last meeting of the committee as follows; That the incoming committee provide facilities for the. growing of seedlings. The suggestion was supported by Mr H. J. Fagan and Mr E. J. Bowater, and it was resolved to hand tho suggestion on to tho incoming commit'!ce. Messrs E. J. Bowater, E. •T. Davcv, D. C. Sanson, E. Wilcock and D. J. Kost.er were elected a committee. The chairman thanked those present and said it, was pleasing to know the public was interested in school affairs. At a subsequent meeting of tho now committee Mr E. J. Bowater was elected chairman and Mr D. C. Sanson secretary. It was resolved that meetings bo held on the first Wednesday in each month. Appreciation of the offer to assist in any way by the retiring secretary (Mr A. Anderson) was expressed by members. The head teacher (Mr G. T. Francis) brought up the question of football and’ basketball competitions. It, was resolved to authorise Mr Francis to nominate teams for both competitions and make arrangements for transport. Mr Bowater was appointed delegate to attend a meeting at Taikorea in connection with basketball. The offer of Mr A. Anderson of transport was accepted with thanks. It was resolved that npplica-

tion be made to the Te Kawau Rugby Sub-union for a football. Mr Wilcock intimated that he would donate a ball for the basketball team. Tho offer was received with thanks. It was resolved to hold a community sing at an early date, the proceeds to be in aid of the school sports fund. Tho chairman was given authority to arrange for the cutting of grass on tho football and basketball grounds. An enjoyable gift evening was held at, the residence of Mr and Mrs Gordon Drew on Saturday, the guest of honour being Miss Nancy Fagan. The early part of -the evening was spent with trump whist, the winners being Miss J. Forbes and Mr J. Trickcr. At an interval Mr Drew expressed the good wishes of all and called on Miss Fagan to open the parcels. Mr ,T. Trickcr returned thanks on behalf of 'Miss Fagan. After a dainty supper the room was cleared for dancing and tho gathering ended at midnight. Those present were: Mr and Mrs G. Drew, Misses Nancy' Fagan, F. Palmer, F. Anderson. E. Galballv. E. Pearce, .T. Forbes (Wellington), R. Dwyer and M. Murphy; Messrs J. Tricker, W. Drew, .T. Palmer, T. Palmer, K. Pearce, D. Grace, C. Grace and ,T. Smith.

During tho absence of Mr T. Williams and family on Friday, their house was broken into and a sum of money and a gold watcli stolen. The matter is in the hands of the police.
