“BIG BEN” STRIKES.

UNEXPECTED STOPPAGE. Evidently the big clock in the tower of the Houses of Parliament, worldfamous for its “Big Ben” hour bell, is in need of the holiday -which is to start in May. It took time off on April 2. Thousands of Easter tourists in London who were abroad early were deceived after the clock had ceased work at 7.16 a.m. A policeman on his beat looked up in order to set his watch, and saw what had happened. He notified the officials, who sent repairers in a hurry to Westminster. They induced the clock to resume its labours at 1.15 p.m.
